Data Handling (authentic study)

source: Reuters, US Geological Survey and Xinhua
edited by Mr Johari

The Recent earthquake phenomena in New Zealand and Japan have impacted many countries globally. The frequency of the earthquakes was tracked and statistical evidence was gathered and presented in the following diagram.

Study the diagram and answer the following question.

Leading Question:
Identify a possible trend in the global earthquakes pattern based on the survey conducted by the US Geological Survey. Post your response as a posting in comment.

  1. I feel a possible trend may be because the world is changing and the crust of the earth is a little unstable, and continents are moving apart and coming together, which is known as continental drift.

  2. the earthquake is happening in the surrounding of the map

  3. The trend is the earthquake happening around everywhere. The tremors are affecting other countries around it self, therefore, spreading

  4. I think the trend is that earthquakes that happen in one country also happen to its neighbours.

  5. A possible trend is that the number of earthquakes is increasing in number and maybe also in magnitude but not in sequence every time in a year. This also can prove that the Earth's crust is shifting in faster speeds and increasing in number.

  6. The trend is that the crust of the country is very unstable. when an earthquake starts, the tremor or the ground or the change in the ground has affected the neighboring country, causing earthquakes too.

  7. I think that the trend is that the earthquake will spread to the neighbouring places, then the earthquake will spread and spread until everywhere around the globe has earthquakes.

  9. I think the trend is that the major fault line is around japan but the sister fault lines are around tat area like Idonesia and China

  10. I think the earthquakes will happen all around the world because there are the crust of the earth is moving everywhere.

I think that the trend is that when one country is hit by an earthquake, the neighbouring countries are affected by tremors, earthquakes and tsunamis.

  12. Most of the earthquake that happened were in Asia or near Asia

  13. The earthquakes happening are moving to surrounding countries and happens so long later as the earthquakes take time to travel from one country to the next

  14. I think that once 1 country experiences quakes, the rest of the countries in its region would have more too. The more the quakes spread round the region, the more quakes happen each month.

  15. The earthquake and its magnitude goes in a pattern such that it only hits a nearby place at a magnitude similar to the place it hit before.

  16. The trend is that the earthquakes happens at the joints of tectonic plates

  17. i can see a possible trend of more earthquakes occurring around the world.
There are quakes at what seems random. This makes it hard to pridict the next coutry to be hit by quakes

  18. I can see the trend that there are at about 3 earthquakes happening each week. They occur mostly around Asia or in it. The earthquakes seem to be getting stronger and stronger.

  19. I think that most of the earthquakes happen to areas where part of its borders face the sea which means, most earthquakes are not directly on the area but in the ocean which means most of the earthquakes will be accompanied by a tsunami.

  20. The earthquakes are happening around the perimeter of the reigion

  21. The earthquake happened around the near the perimeter of the map

  22. The quakes spread like a while fire, every month the quakes increase, once there's a country affected by the quake, the rest of the country will suffer from quakes too.
